A window frame on the corner of the street where one of us lives kept drawing our attention: two
vertical blocks of bluestone topped by a horizontal beam of the same material. These three blocks
of stone are carved on the side facing the window frame, giving them a certain elegance.
When you walk around in Brussels and look around, you start to notice how much this technique
is used. The window and door frames that appeal to us most date from the Art Nouveau period. In
Art Nouveau buildings, carvings are often applied to the corners of beams, adding depth and
refinement. From this fascination, we began an exploration to incorporate this language into an
object.
